Samuel Hurley

Samuel Hurley is a poet, writer, and performance artist whose work explores the intersections of romanticism, existentialism, and the search for meaning in a rapidly changing world.

Samuel’s writing style is a blend of lyrical abstraction, romanticism, and melodrama. Influenced heavily by the works of romantic poets and philosophers, as well as pop-punk, emo, rock, gothic romance, and cinema, his work embodies a new-romantic style—where language becomes both intricate and expansive, capturing the tension between the fleeting and the eternal.

Raised in the UK by a professional children’s clown, Samuel developed an early love for wonder, myth, magic, and romance. His work champions the importance of being human—messy, emotional, and beautifully imperfect—against a backdrop of rising technology, AI, and modern detachment.

Samuel’s background spans a range of creative and educational disciplines. Trained as a professional actor, he developed a strong foundation in voice, rhythm, and performance, which naturally informs his approach to writing. In his youth, he was a peer mentor for the National Youth Theatre, and he later led workshops on Shakespeare, classical performance, and the art of performing and reading poetry within schools, colleges, and community settings. He has worked supporting adults with learning difficulties, alongside a long career as a designer and videographer.

Samuel Hurley is a father to two boys and lives with his family in the hills of Lancashire. He has a deep love for animals, nature, the outdoors, and the sublime. When not writing, he can usually be found reading, hiking, or drinking coffee.
